WORLD FOOD DAY: NOURISHMENT IS AT THE CENTRE OF OUR BUSINESS

Food is one of the most important basic needs for humans and animals. Around the world, there is an intense food shortage occasioned by some factors including poverty, insecurity, climate change, etc., and this has caused the death of millions of people, who are mostly unable to afford proper nutritional diets to help with their growth and survival.

Poverty and undernutrition are a cause for concern globally and statistics show that the situation is not getting any better hence the increasing need to improve the standards of living by increasing agricultural productivity.

The World Food Day is an international day celebrated worldwide every October 16, by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), to raise awareness of issues on poverty and to ensure the need for food security and nutritious diets for all. It is also aimed at eliminating hunger and improving standards of living by increasing agricultural productivity. This year’s celebration will highlight the theme “Our actions are our future- Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life”.

According to the FAO, nearly 690 million people in the world went hungry in 2019

Because of severe poverty level and the inability of people to access food and balanced diets. There is a growing global food and undernutrition crisis, and it is posing a major threat to global health, growth, and nourishment.

According to the American Public Health Association, the solution to world poverty will require a public-private collaboration where food manufacturing companies can contribute to reducing hunger world-wide, among which includes investing in agriculture, fortification of staples and commonly consumed nutritious foods and beverages.

Improved nutrition empowers people and communities by fueling the development process that leads to poverty reduction. In a globalizing world, the premium on innovation and creativity is higher than ever, and malnutrition undercuts both in a most savage way. Food manufacturing companies like Grand Cereals, places a premium on the nutritional needs of its customers and communities, which is why a major aspect of its CSR policy is to impact local communities in a sustainable way.
